UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko likes to fight, as often as possible, PPV points be damned.

"I'm a person who wants to compete more often and as much as I can," said Shevchenko to Mike Bohn for MMA Junkie. "That's why, when I signed my new agreement with UFC, one of the things I asked is to be able to compete not only in pay-per-views, but also in different events of UFC to be able to compete more often. So, for me, the more often I compete, the more happy I am."

"This mentality came from very, very far away. I was growing up with this idea that it doesn't matter what you are doing, the most important is the journey and what you get through this. Of course when you get more money it's a great thing. What I think about money is it gives you certain freedom in your actions.

"I don't want to spend money on buying car. I don't want to spend money buying houses or things. I want to spend money on my travels, to invest in myself, to learn more, to get more knowledge for exploring new things."

"I am ready for this fight with all my 100 percent. I am ready to do anything that I should do. I will see the moment to finish the fight by KO or submission or whatever."

Shevchenko defends vs. Katyln Chookagian in the co-main event of UFC 247 on Saturday.

My guess is she's sort of in a Mighty Mouse situation: Because PPV points only kick in when a PPV hits a certain number of buys (usually 200K, according to the anti-trust lawsuit) she's unlikely to ever benefit from being on a PPV unless there's a strong main event between two fighters who can sell a card. She was in the main event of a PPV only once, in a title fight against Nunes at UFC 215. It did an estimated 100K buys.

So, she'll get more people watching her fight if she's on an ESPN card and she'll get the same pay as she would if it was a PPV.

They need more champions like this. Willing to fight whenever and wherever, as often as possible. Too many champions right now fighting once or maybe twice a year and holding up divisions.
