The great Nick Diaz, now 37, recently did a 14-week camp and weight cut to see where he's at, and his manager Kevin Mubenga reports he plans a return early in 2021. At Tuesday's DWCS Season 4: Week 6 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White was asked about it.

“The Nick Diaz thing ... first of all, we would’ve never released that or done that,” said White, as transcribed by Mike Heck for MMA Fighting. “We’ll see how this thing plays out. I don’t have any expectations, whatsoever. We’ll see what happens.”

"There’s been talking. But there’s been talking for years.”

What does he mean we would’ve never done that or released that, what’s he referring to?

Maybe a shot at Ariel?

i think he meant he talked to Nick and told him just keep training and re-evaluate later and see where this goes. Probably didn’t wanna given it attention. After that last Nick Diaz interview ufc was probably shook.

He means they would have never built hype around a fighter.  It hurts the UFC's bargaining power if they promote the fighters.

I took it as Hey, that was his manager releasing that information. Not the UFC, cause this guy usually doesn't follow through. We wouldn't promote him again until we knew for sure a contract had been signed.

Thats what I got out of it.     I think...

He would never promote a fighter coming back in a years time. Well, a fighter who he doesn't think will actually come through I guess

Dana saying Nicks the boy who cried "Wolftickets" too many times and hes not pumpping him up, promoting, or working with him any way till hes sugned lock, stock. and barrel. Nicks earned that rep.

Nick missed out on a lot of money sitting out, his style is outdated. If I were Dana, I’d put him against Masvidal to try to avenge his brothers loss.

I agree this is the fight to make, but Nick will want a huge payday like Nate and Dana will argue he’s not as big of a draw as his baby bro and then nothing will likely happen

Nick coming back to MMA at this point is like a pornstar returning to the fuck business after years away. It's nearly always for financial reasons and It's never pretty. Could be wrong though.

I had to refresh myself on when he last fought. Wow.

That BJ Penn fight seems like so long ago. He has only fought 3x since then and pushing 6 years with no fight.

2011 is the last year he was really active.
