UnderGround Forums DFW: I'll probably let Adesanya vs. Jones happen

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was supposed to defend vs. Paulo Costa, who was coming off a close decision loss to Yoel Romero. However, Coast underwent bicep surgery, and is out until later this year. So Adesanya called out Romero, who happily obliged; the pair fight in the main event of UFC 248 on March 7.

During a recent interview with Jim Rome, UFC president Dana White was impressed.

"Adesanya's going into a fight right now that makes no sense," said White, as transcribed by Damon Martin for MMA Fighting. "He called out Yoel Romero, who he does not have to fight. First of all, nobody's asking for Yoel Romero. The exact opposite. Every guy who's fought him will tell you -- every time they hit Yoel Romero, it hurt them. This is true. This is fact. From world champions to top three guys in the world will tell you this about Romero.

"Adesanya calls him out and says 'I feel like this is one of the baddest dudes in the world and my legacy will not be complete without fighting this guy first.' He could totally wait a couple more months and fight Paulo Costa like he's supposed to. He's taking this fight."

"If he gets through [Romero] then gets through Paulo Costa, then he's got Jon Jones out there, too, which is a very interesting fun fight that probably shouldn't happen but I'll probably let it if they want to."

They want to.

UFC can't really afford this fight right now. They need stable champions in their own divisions. The sport is drowning out the real fans by constantly putting on money fights.

I disagree, I believe the money fights are the only thing keeping me watching. I only wish Dana would make the good fights happen like GSP vs. Khabib

I'm sure Jones is all for it, he loves fighting smaller competition.

Jones is king of 185

He's beat more 185ers than Izzy has

Lol yes dana pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease don't make fights between 2 champions. None of us "real" fans want to watch 2 undefeated dominant champions fight eachother in their prime.

All us "real" fans were thrilled you never made gsp/silva. Thank you Dana White for looking out for us real fans.

Israel needs to establish himself in his division first, even if he defeats Yoel and Costa. There are a bunch of guys after those two who would pose a serious threat to him

This is Rory vs Moose but worse. Israel could Get hurt bad from jones elbows from the top and jones can put him on his back and keep him there.

Lol 185ers always moving up to fight Jones but Jones never moving up to fight no one despite busting at the seams at 205. Should let Israel build up a string of defenses first and let Jones fight DC at HW and if he wins feed him to Stipe. By the time he recovers from those injuries Israel will be ready and primed to take his soul.

A fight between two legit champs - if they both win their coming bouts - is NOT a meaningless money fight!

You know Im down for Izzy/Jones!

I hated the fact Jones has had to fight 3 somewhat boring LHW names last 3 fights.

Give me Superfights baby!

So weird you guys get triggered over this.

His last opponents will be 6'4 Reyes, Santos, 6'5 Smith, 6'5 Gus, Cormier, 6'3 OSP, Cormier, undefeated LHW Teuxiera, and Gus.

Those are his last 7 years of opponents.

Who are these tiny MW's?
