Dana White: BMF belt for Diaz vs. Masvidal winner is one and done
“This fight is one of those fights that sort of took on a life of its own. Nate said in his interview this is a fight to see who’s the baddest motherf@$%ker in the game. He’s like, ‘That’s what this championship is.’ So alright, I’m in." White was asked if the belt would be defended: "No. It’s a one-and-done. Whoever wins, wins the belt and claims the title - BMF.” h/t MMA Fighting • Watch UFC 242 post-fight press conference
Tyron Woodley: Kamaru Usman rematch is #supernecessary'
The UFC tried to put Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington, and that failing, then Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal. Now Masvidal fights Nate Diaz for the official Baddest Mother F@$%er belt, or wallet, which leaves a potential opening for an Usman rematch vs. former champ Tyron Woodley, whose coach Duke Roufus says will be back soon. 'The Chosen One' wants in: “Since Colby’s being a b**** per usual, Kamaru Usman what you say we run this back! If anything is #supernecessary it’s this!” h/t Twitter • MMA Junkie
Rogan reacts to UFC Diaz vs. Masvidal 'baddest motherf@$%er in the game' fight
“When I saw it on my Instagram feed this morning I threw my arms up like somebody got knocked out. ‘Yes!’ ... I had said that I think Nate Diaz is one of the biggest superstars in the game, right up there with everybody. I guess there was some negotiations or something because Dana White refuted it. He goes, ‘Well I don’t think Nate Diaz is in our long term plans. Nate fights once every three years.’ I’m like, don’t say that. [But] I’m sure [it was part of the negotiation] and to let Nate know that look, we’ve got other plans. There’s other $#!@ that we’re doing.” h/t MMA Fighting
Bellator boss: Loser of Mir vs. Nelson could get released
Scott Coker: “I heard that [Mir] wasn’t happy about the fight. But this is, I talked to my guys about it, and I said, ‘What happened?” And they said [Mir] wanted the fight, and I looked at all the texts, and they were like ‘thumbs up,’ from Frank, so thumbs up to me means he wants to do it, you know? So we put the fight together. Really it’s a fight that both of those guys are coming off a defeat, actually, so you say, ‘OK, which one is going to be able to turn it around?' And this fight is that one for them in their career. You know, this is the time that they got to deliver, and I think it might be the winner moves forward, and the loser goes home, maybe.” h/t MMA Junkie
The Russian Invasion continued at UFC 242
Russian fighters shone bright at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi. Khabib Nurmagomedov from Dagestan, Russia, won and unified the lightweight title (28 fight win streak). Former Sanda world champ Islam Makhachev from Dagestan, Russia, won, moving his record to 18-1, and his win streak to 6. Former Combat Sambo world champion Muslim Salikhov won, moving his record to 15-2. International Master of Sport in Combat Sambo Omari Akhmedov from Dagestan, Russia, won, moving his record to 19-4; he has not lost in 5 fights. Master of Sports in Combat Sambo Zubaira Tukhugov from Chechnya, Russia, earned a split draw, and is now 18-4-1. The sole Russia loss on the card was Mairbek Taisumov from Dagestan, Russia, whose record is 26-6, with 3 performance bonuses in his 9 UFC fights.
Dana White: Nurmagomedov 'couple fights away from potential GOAT status'
“Pretty special, man. I think he’s a couple fights away from potential GOAT status. To go undefeated for this long, for this many fights, especially in a division that’s that stacked, he’s looking down the barrel of a pretty special career. ... He looked unbelievable. Incredibly dominant, even though there was some drama in there when he was caught in that guillotine. A lot of people don’t get out of that thing. Khabib is so good he got out. Dustin had that thing in deep. Most people would have tapped and went to sleep to that guillotine. Props on him for getting out of that, too. He looked completely dominant tonight.” h/t MMA Junkie

Dana White: Ferguson next for Khabib; if he declines then McGregor rematch
"He’s next. Tony Ferguson is next in line for the fight if he accepts the fight. We’ll see how this thing plays out when Khabib will fight again and if Tony wants the fight. Tony Ferguson gets the next shot and obviously if for whatever reason Tony can’t take the fight or doesn’t want the fight at that time then we would figure out what was next but Conor would make a lot of sense. Conor McGregor wants that fight really badly and I’m sure the fans would want to see it. So we’ll see how this whole thing plays out.” Notorious offered a 5-word tweet - “Book my rematch for Moscow." h/t MMA Fighting • Watch UFC 242 post-fight press conference

With TNT deal, ONE plans to challenge UFC in North America
ONE Championship has a three-year broadcast deal with Turner Sports with 24 events scheduled for 2019. ONE 100 will air in primetime in the US on Oct. 12, and it's only the beginning: “We offer a completely, 180 degree, diametrically opposed product to what North American MMA fans are used to seeing [in promotions like UFC and Bellator]. American MMA is a blood sport, it promotes anger… controversy… negative energy. What ONE Championship does is offer a very different set of values. Things like respect, honor, humility. We showcase the best of humanity. ... You won’t find a single scandal with any of our top stars, or any of our fighters for that matter. You can’t find a single article of any of our athletes getting into trouble, no drugs, no DUIs, no assaults.” ... The UFC stars who have come over, and a lot of UFC stars have reached out … we carefully select those that represent our values. Fighters like Eddie Alvarez, Demetrious Johnson, Sage Northcutt. We are not interested in loud, brash characters like in western promotions. Our stars are role models, people little boys and girls worldwide can look to as inspiration.” h/t FOX Business
Edson Barboza management plans appeal of Felder decision
Alex Davis is not impressed with the Edson Barboza vs. Paul Felder scoring at UFC 242: Howie Booth (30-27 Barboza), Maria Makhmutova (30-27 Felder), David Lethaby (29-28 Felder): "When you have one judge scoring it 30-27 for one fighter, and another judge scores it 30-27 for the other fighter, something is obviously wrong. ... This really has a negative impact on Edson’s career. That’s the big issue. Think about what happens to Edson’s career now when he takes a loss that he didn’t deserve. That turn is really, really dramatic. ... It doesn’t matter if [the appeal] is difficult or if it seems that we’re not going to get anywhere. We’re going to do it by a question of principle. It has to be done.” h/t MMA Junkie
Khabib Nurmagomedov: I'm #1 P4P fighter in MMA
“You know what’s interesting in this sport, even if you’re 28-0, 12-0 in the UFC, you’re one of the biggest stars, you smash everybody, people are going to talk about you ‘have to fight him, you have to fight with him, you have to fight with him’ — give me just respect. Put me on No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter next week because I think I deserve this. Because I dominate with all my opponents. I’m undefeated. I think I deserve some respect.” h/t MMA Fighting • Watch post-fight press conference
Scott Coker noncommittal on immediate Bader vs. Kongo rematch
“These things happen sometimes in this sport with the open-fingered gloves. Whether we would run it back, that depends on Ryan and his next step, as far as fighting at 205 or fighting as a heavyweight. We have some good fights for him at light heavyweight as well. There’s some unfinished business. I’m sure he’d like to fight Machida again, and we’ve got Gegard.” h/t MMA Junkie

Dustin Piorier: This is like a Rocky movie
“I’m facing Khabib, a man who was never defeated before, considered one of the best in the world,” Poirier said. “I’m crossing the desert for this, in hostile territory, where he will have the crowd on his side. But that’s the story of my whole life, being the underdog in a fight. But every dog has its day. It’s a like a story out of a Rocky Balboa movie. I can get in there against all odds and show the person I am, the kind of fighter I am. I’m representing myself and my family. I have this opportunity to make history and I’m grabbing it with all my might.” h/t BE • Combate
